Meet Oval Coffee Roasters — team, sourcing, and philosophy behind our light-roast specialty coffee roasted in New York City.
Oval Coffee Roasters is a New York City–based specialty coffee roaster focused on modern light-roast clarity, ethical sourcing, and hospitality. We roast in the Bronx and build relationships across grocery, independent retailers, hospitality, and design. Our lineup includes women-produced light roasts like Bowling Green Blend, our balanced half-caffeinated Riverside Blend Half Caff, and naturally processed, fruit-forward coffees like The Natural.

Christopher Alspach · Co-Founder & Director of Coffee
Christopher Alspach has been roasting coffee since 2007, with more than 16,000 batches behind him. He trained in Brooklyn with a third-generation Italian roaster before co-founding Upper Left Roasters in Portland, OR — a brand known for clean light roasts, origin transparency, and thoughtful café design.
Chris launched Oval Coffee Roasters in 2023 and leads sourcing, roasting, and product development. His focus: coffees that express origin character without bitterness, and formats that make great coffee easier — from 250 g whole-bean bags to travel-ready single-serve pour-overs.
Andrew Itzkowitz · Co-Founder & Managing Partner
Andrew Itzkowitz began in specialty food more than 20 years ago at his family’s bakery, helping bring early gluten-free pastries — Rainbow Cookies, Black & Whites, and Ring Tings (his dad’s gluten-free take on a Ring Ding) — to market.
He later helped guide established and emerging CPG brands in grocery and foodservice, including Bonne Maman, Yogi Tea, Hooray Foods, and MyForest Foods. He joined Oval Coffee Roasters in 2025 to pair that retail/distribution experience with Christopher’s roasting craft and hospitality mindset — scaling Oval nationally while keeping it intentional, NYC-rooted, and transparent.
What We Believe
We believe great coffee should feel both elevated and human. That means:
- Women-produced coffee, not lip service. Our Bowling Green Blend is built from rotating lots grown and managed by women producers.
- Balance without compromise. Riverside Blend blends caffeinated coffees with Swiss Water Process decaf for a smoother, balanced light roast.
- Process you can taste. The Natural uses sun-dried cherries for fruit-forward sweetness and expressive aromatics.
- Convenience without pods. Our single-serve pour-over drip bags make café-quality brewing possible anywhere.
