FAQ
1. About Our Coffee
What makes Oval Coffee Roasters different?
We created Oval to reflect the pace, style, and clarity we want in our day. Roasted in New York City, our coffee is designed to be both beautiful and practical—from blends that are smooth, flavorful, and easy to enjoy, to packaging that fits naturally into your space. We keep things simple with names like Half Caff and Women Grown, so you don’t have to guess what you’re getting. It’s specialty coffee made for real life—fast, thoughtful, and made to feel good.
Why is Oval more expensive than some other coffees?
Oval is priced to reflect the craft and care that goes into every cup. We pay more for coffees sourced through trusted relationships, roast them with precision in small batches, and package them in formats that make enjoying great coffee convenient anywhere. You’re not just paying for beans—you’re supporting better farming, skilled roasting, and a product designed to deliver a consistently elevated experience.
Where is your coffee roasted?
All of our coffee is roasted by our team in New York City. We roast at a state-of-the-art facility in the Bronx neighborhood of Hunt’s Point using Loring roasters. This allows us to stay hands-on while scaling efficiently.
Are your beans organic or sustainably sourced?
We source through relationships spanning decades, and all could be described using the broad term sustainable. Many of our coffees are certified organic, but since we are not certified organic as a company, we don’t market them that way.
Do you offer Water Process decaf?
Yes! Our decaf is made using the Water Process, a 100% chemical-free method that preserves the coffee’s natural flavor beautifully. We utilize coffee decaffeinated at both water process decaffeination plants, Swiss Water in BC, Canada, and Mountain Water in Veracruz, Mexico, depending on seasonality. While we don’t currently offer a full decaf, you can enjoy it in our Riverside Blend — a balanced mix of 50% decaf and 50% caffeinated coffee. Available in both whole bean and single-serve pour-over.
2. Shopping & Ordering
Where can I buy Oval Coffee?
We’re proud to partner with independent retailers across the country who share our passion for exceptional coffee. You can also find us at pop-ups and events in New York City, or order directly online on our shop page. Use the store finder on our homepage to explore local shops near you.
Do you sell your coffee online and in stores?
Yes. Our full lineup is available on our shop page, and select products are sold in stores through retail partners.
How do I use your single-serve pour-over pouches?
Tear open the pouch, anchor it to your mug, and pour hot water slowly. Each pouch brews one clean, flavorful cup with no equipment needed.
How do I brew a stronger cup?
To intensify your coffee, try one or more of these adjustments:
- Use less water (6 oz instead of 8 oz).
- Pour more slowly, letting the grounds saturate fully.
- Use two pour-over pouches for a double-strength brew.
- If brewing whole bean, grind slightly finer and use a higher ratio of coffee to water.
These small tweaks will yield a richer, more concentrated cup.
Why doesn’t my single-serve pour over stay on the mug?
Our single-serve pour overs are designed to fit most standard mugs. If your mug has an unusually wide or narrow opening, sides that curve sharply in or out, or a thick rim, the arms may not grip securely and can slip off. In that case, the filter will still work — you’ll just need to hold it gently on one or both sides while pouring. (Please take extra care with hot water, since your hand will be close to the rim.)
What if the arms on my single-serve pour over tear?
A small tear usually isn’t a problem — the filter will still brew just fine if you hold it in place. If the tear makes it unusable, reach out to us and we’ll be happy to send you replacements.
Can I subscribe to regular deliveries?
Yes. You can set up a subscription for any of our coffees and choose how often you want them delivered. We recommend the roaster’s choice, where the coffee changes month to month. You can pause, skip, or change your plan anytime.
3. Shipping & Returns
How long does shipping take?
Orders typically ship within 4-5 business days. Delivery usually takes 7-10 days within the U.S.
Do you offer free shipping?
We offer a $5 flat rate for shipping, adding $2 for each additional product.
What’s your return policy?
If something isn’t right, contact us within 14 days. We’ll make it right with a replacement or refund.
